For almost its entire history, cinema has used film as its recording medium. But recently this has changed drastically. In 1999, Sony released the first 24p digital motion picture production system, which was an important step in the shift toward digital production. In 2006, Sony launched the world’s first 4K digital cinema projection system which has increased demand for high-quality digital content retaining 4K resolution. And now, following the introduction of Sony’s F65 – an epoch-making digital cinema camera, Sony is launching some outstanding new products to strengthen its 4K toolset. We have designed CineAlta™ 4K acquisition tools as ‘total imaging systems’ from sensor to codec for capturing the image rendered by lens with the utmost fidelity. Various cutting-edge technologies, such as a Super 35 mm imager, wider dynamic range and color gamut, high sensitivity, and high-speed recording systems, have been used in these camera systems, so that cinematographers can freely express their creative vision. Regardless of any changes in technology or economy, our mission remains the same: to satisfy the ever-increasing demands of creative minds. Sony is committed to further elevating image quality and improving the visual experience. With this in mind, the CineAlta logo symbolizes ’infinity’, which can also be thought of as ‘unlimited creative possibility’ and ‘endless pursuit of perfecting technology’.
The VENICE Extension System (CBK-3610XS) enables cabled separation of the VENICE camera body and image sensor block by up to 5.5m with no degradation in image quality.
The kit consists of a front panel cover, image sensor
block case and a 2.7m (9 ft) cable with an additional 2.7m (9 ft) extension cable.
(VENICE camera is not included.)
The Extension System also has an HD-SDI output and a 24V output for powering accessories such as lens servo motors and monitoring. Multiple screw holes on all surfaces make it easy to affix additional accessories and fit with a wide variety of rigs. The Extension System is fully compatible with all existing and future VENICE cameras upgraded to V3 or higher firmware.
Availability of the VENICE Extension System and Version 3.0 Firmware is scheduled for early 2019.
- Separation of the camera body and image sensor block by up to 5.5m enables exceptional flexibility when filming with gimbals, handheld, in helicopter/underwater housings, with custom rigs such as for 3D/VR contents and shooting scenes in confined spaces such as vehicles. The separated image block is just 1.9 kg (4lb) with PL mount and 1.4kg (3lb) with E-mount for the utmost shooting flexibility.
- Uncompromised image quality
- CBK-3610XS preserves full use of the advanced features VENICE offers such as its built-in 8-step glass ND filter system, Dual Base ISO and more.

VENICE 2 features one of two 36x24mm full-frame image sensors, designed specifically for the demands and performance of high-end cinematography. Each offers remarkable sensitivity, latitude and colour rendition, and because the sensor blocks are interchangeable, users can easily switch between sensors—without any extra firmware—and can even use the sensor from their original VENICE. The new 8K sensor can capture images up to a maximum resolution of 8640 x 5760, while the established 6K sensor offers up to 6048 x 4032. Both offer powerful oversampling for incredible 4K images.
